Have you ever noticed (I’m sure you have) that no matter how much you enjoy doing something, there is always that moment when it starts to feel like work? Even when it’s something you love – there’s that ‘oof’-moment when the wind goes out of your sails and leaves you bobbing along in your shitty little vessel on the dark and stormy sea?
Yesterday, we wrapped up this year’s Sustainival in Fort McMurray where I had the great pleasure of being stage manager. It was a hoot and a laugh and a riot! I got to talk to artists and their spouses about the wild 70’s in LA, dance with tiny patrons, jump from a 9 meter structure onto the largest bag I’ve ever seen and best of all – I got to meet the incredibly diverse, intelligent, funny, surprising and passionate Sustainival team! And do you know what? Not once during this intense weekend did I feel that ‘oof’ – even when my foot was aching or my head was tired – I was still having a blast! I still can’t help but to smile. To all of you who helped this happen, to all the artists, to the volunteers and to all of you that came out – THANK YOU.
